My Tribute Message to Lee Kuan Yew

Dear Lee Kuan Yew,

Saying my goodbyes to you is a healing experience. I grew up believing in the Singapore you spoke about but as I read about the lives of the hundreds of people imprisoned, tortured and sued under the government under your rule, I cannot but feel angry for the families and individuals who have lost their many years, and the many poor who continue to exist today. Yet, who am I to be self-righteous, an anguish only they and you can understand. Yet, is it not that many Singaporeans appreciate what you have helped built, to bring Singapore to what it is today. So, thank you, Mr Lee. I only hope that with your passing, forgiveness can take place and our country can have a new beginning, and a new togetherness and future. Now that you have left your physical body and are in a better place, I believe, I hope that you will continue to watch over the Singapore you fought so hard to turn into. May you bless Singapore and our people from where you are and may healing for our country finally take place.

Please rest in peace. Thank you.

Roy Ngerng

My friends asked me to go with them for the memorial service of Lee Kuan Yew at the Parliament House two nights ago. We queued for 3 hours but had to leave when a friend started feeling unwell. I went to another memorial event today.

It took me a while to think about what to write. Truth is, I feel a sense of injustice for what has been happening for the past 50 years but as I thought through within, I realised that this could also be a time of forgiveness and letting go. He was a man of controversies, many are angry but many are as well grateful.

Rightly or not, Singapore did propel itself during the early years because of Lee Kuan Yew’s strongman leadership. But rights were also eroded.

After processing my thoughts within, this was what I wrote. They are my honest and sincere feelings.

I truly believe that at this time of his passing, we have a chance to renew our hope for Singapore and from where he is, I do believe that his freed soul can help us to start anew. I mean this with all my heart.

May all be well for our country. This is an opportunity for us as a nation to forgive and let go, and to reconcile with the truth, so that we can unite towards a new hope. I hope that we will be strong enough to move on from this together.

(I will continue to be honest to speak up on what I believe were mistakes that were made in the past and present but during these few days of the family’s mourning, I will refrain from doing so. I do not know how long this sense of forgiveness can last for me but it is a process, and I hope that as the nation goes through this journey together in each of our own way, something good can come out from it.)

  1. really

He was basically saying.. ..Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men….For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

    He spoke JESUS, the irony

  2. omen

““Lee Kuan Yew is dead, finally. Why hasn’t anyone said, “Yeah, the guy is dead!”Lee Kuan Yew was a horrible person.Because everyone is scared. Everyone is afraid that if they say something like that, they might get into trouble which — give LKY credit — was primarily the impact of his legacy. But I’m not afraid.”Goodness, out of a mouth of babe, a boy demolished 7 days of propaganda and even outdone ALL the oppositions put together by taking his rant all over the world. LoLIn just one day, he became the new hero in Sg lolHe will definitely find plenty of fans and believers all over the world though he is rejected by his own country men. :)For a boy, it was very well said”

Wittingly, he preached Sin to the world….while your fake preachers are talking crap and collecting money from blind sheep 🙂

  3. Bullshit?

MAMMON is a biblical term, Aramaic in origin, that refers to all material wealth or corporeal substance. Its reference is to one’s possessions, one’s property and equity, and, most importantly, one’s spiritual attitude toward all things owned. An important measure of any individual is the way in which that person views the material world around him. The array of personal possessions which enhance and crowd our lives is boundless. People define themselves by what they own and consider wealth and valuable possessions to be a blessing. Success is also often defined in material terms. In contrast, the teaching of the Christ were dedicated to freeing mankind from the slavish pursuits of material mammon.

Of all his messages, none are more specific as to those concerning God and Mammon.  Jesus repeatedly tells us that those who engage in material pursuits cannot be righteous nor can they enter the kingdoms of God.

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.~Jesus, Matt 19:24, Mark 10:24, Luke 18:25

No man can serve two masters: Ye cannot serve God and Mammon. ~Jesus, Matt 6:24, Luke 16:13

They worship the Lord, but serve other gods. ~2 Kings 17:33

  4. getreal

Man..i think people just hate Jesus or god. ..Amos just a nobody…and the message is not his but Jesus.

  9. Roy, please be a man

A TRIBUTE is something given or contributed voluntarily as due or deserved; especially : something that you say, give, or do to show respect or affection for someone. You only write a tribute message if you are sincere out of respect. Nobody can force you otherwise.

Roy said :”as I read about the lives of the hundreds of people imprisoned, tortured and sued under the government under your rule, I cannot but feel angry for the families and individuals who have lost their many years, and the many poor who continue to exist today. ” Most definitely, this is not a tribute.

Please change the title of your post.

    • @ Roy, please be a man

your grandpa died, is not Roy’s business . especially your family still being persecuted him, you should not ask more at this moment. if you want him to follow your instruction , pls hire him to be a civil servant , pay him the salary as the same as yours .
      Let him under your leadership.

meanwhile, you need to positioning yourself. before the election, open LKY and his daughter-in-law’s account to present to the public , how honest upright and uncorrupted they are , since they said on the television propaganda they got nothing ?

his family everybody got the high pay with a great wealth , still said got nothing ? Very suspicious .

A good reminder, If you want to continue be the leader , pls don’t create trouble, especially not bring inconvenience to the people,

      Two options,
if your family want to take the money and power, take it ! just allow the people have voice .

      • Roy please be a man

Funny enough I have no problem with what you said although iI don’t agree with it. At least you are honest. Roy is definitely dishonest and devious.

  10. @ we support Amos Yee

Money , power, wealth, VIP…Freedom of speech. You PAP can not take away everything.

about Amos Yee , a gifted orator, his speech is very accurately , we would agreed with him, his appeared to make Singapore more like a first-world. he make Singapore proud.

some people not happy , we bet you, in 10 years late, you shamed about today

  11. TalkCock

“Although Amos is only a teenager, his political maturity and fearlessness really put most adults to shame. He has spoken what most of us only dare to think or whisper in a quiet corner. With age, Amos should become emotionally mature. An Amos Yee without profanities and sensitive to racial/religious issues deserves the support of right minded singaporeans.”

This guy who wtote the above has a religious issue. He has to insert his RIGHT AND AUTHORITY on and over Amos right to COMPOSE (old man said that to white reporters in the 60s). Just because Amos used strong VULGAR words to PUNCTUATE his speech, it does not make him a profane or vulgar person.

The issue here is: if you are not controlled by pigs, you will be controlled by religious nut cases.

    • TomDickHarry

what is so vulgar about mother fucker? when your Father fucks your mother…he is a mother fucker….when the father fucks his children…he could be liken to a priest( are there not priests who fucked children?)

Hey…FACKs man…you have been fucked by your father…an expression intelligently understood by most people

    • NotFooled

Monkeys want us to believe that people who don’t use profane or vulgar are upright… not vulgar or profane themselves…yah right..LOL

    • StPeter

I know of people who would dismiss, literally shut off his video upon hearing F, Amos and would not bother to listen to Amos anymore(he will not do well in the poll because the sneaky corpse had put his knowledge of the psychology of religion to work in his greater scheme of his) No wonder god sent Amos because you have been listening only to righteous and holy people who live in proud Sin and now, has become the talk or mock in global village, thanks to Amos hahaha

  12. @ we support Amos Yee

when Singapore in the Japanese reign , Lee Kuan Yew is a yes man , he choose to obey. at that time, he did not save Singapore.

Compare that time the same age’s Lee Kuan Yew, this 17 years old teenager – Amos Yee , under the current climate of fear, he is not a yes man, he made his frankly manifesto , he justifiably deserves to be the worldwide an young hero of this year .

  13. why meditation

why Lee Kuan Yew discussion with Laurence Freeman on Meditation in 2013 ?
( look at this video,he wanted to get rid of the pains , If successful, he can live over 100 years old : )

A history of defamation suits in Singapore (1987 – 2013):

J.B. Jeyaretnam sued for slander for allegedly implying that Lee Kuan Yew had abetted Teh Cheang Wan’s suicide and helped to cover up Teh’s corruption. Jeyaretnam was found guilty and was ordered him to pay damages of S$260,000 plus costs to Lee.

J.B. Jeyaretnam was sued twice for libel by Indian PAP leaders for an article in the Workers’ Party newspaper, which alleged that a number of those involved in an event called the Tamil Language Week were government “stooges”. Total damages of S$465,000 and S$250,000 in court costs were awarded.

Tang Liang Hong sued for defamation by Lee Kuan Yew, Goh Chok Tong, Lee Hsien Loong and Tony Tan and several other PAP MPs for making statements which falsely questioned their integrity, during the 1997 general elections. A total of 13 judgments were entered against Tang for defamation. Damages were assessed by a judge of the High Court at a total of $8,075,000. Tang fled the country and has not returned to Singapore since 1997 and continues to live in Australia.

11 defamation suits were also filed by Goh Chok Tong against J.B. Jeyaretnam for announcing that Tang Liang Hong had made two reports to the police against Goh. PM Goh alleged that his “reputation, moral authority and leadership standing have been gravely injured both local and internationally.” Damages of $20,000 were initially awarded. Goh appealed against the ruling and the damages were raised to a total of $120,000 including court costs.

In 1999, former Singaporean President Devan Nair, who was living in exile in Canada, remarked in an interview with the Toronto The Globe and Mail that Lee’s technique of suing his opponents into bankruptcy or oblivion was an abrogation of political rights. He also remarked that Lee is “an increasingly self-righteous know-all”, surrounded by “department store dummies”. In response to these remarks, Lee sued Nair in a Canadian court and Nair countersued. Lee then brought a motion to have Nair’s counterclaim thrown out of court. Lee argued that Nair’s counterclaim disclosed no reasonable cause of action and constituted an inflammatory attack on the integrity of the Singapore government. However, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice refused to throw out Nair’s counterclaim, holding that Lee had abused the litigating process and therefore Nair has a reasonable cause of action.

After the 2001 general election, Chee Soon Juan was sued for defamation by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew for remarks he had made during the campaign about an alleged loan to Indonesian President Suharto. Chee lost the lawsuits and was ordered to pay damages of S$300,000 to Goh and S$200,000 to Lee.

J.B. Jeyaretnam was declared bankrupt for an overdue installment on the damages that he owed to PAP ministers.

On 10 February 2006, Chee Soon Juan was declared a bankrupt by the High Court after failing to pay the damages owed to Goh and Lee.

Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong awarded US$300,000 against Chee Soon Juan & SDP for libel regarding an article that questioned the government for its handling of the NKF scandal. On 20 June 2006, Chee was charged in court for eight counts of speaking in public without a licence between 13 November 2005 and 22 April 2006 in violation of the Public Entertainments and Meeting Act. Two other SDP members were also charged. Chee was fined $5,000. On 23 November 2006, he was jailed for five weeks for failing to pay the fine. Two other SDP members, Gandhi Ambalam and Yap Keng Ho, were also imprisoned.

Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong awarded US$416,000 in damages against Chee Soon Juan and Singapore Democratic Party, stemming from 2006 defamation case.

SDP’s Dr Vincent Wijeysingha was served a letter of demand as well from Minister Tan Chuan Jin for an article he published on his blog as well. The minister is taking legal action against Dr Vincent despite him publishing a letter of apology. More updates coming soon.

    2014 – 2015

Roy Ngerng Yi Ling 鄞义林, Han Huihui and five others jobless , homeless and penniless was sued , PM LHL asked for 0.25 million defamation fee from Roy Ngerng Yi Ling, but one of them only have 200 SGD given to them . These poor people live in the bottom of the society, they are indeed no money.

There is a group of people,

who consorted and dined with the devil.

They thought they are freed from terror,

and little do they realise their error.

Everything was going so fine and dandy,

until they are reminded of just who is their daddy.
