[Update Two 150316] Funds Raised for Payment for Defamation Suit
Background: I was sued by the Singapore prime minister for defamation in 2014. In the same year, the judge ruled in a summary judgment that I have defamed prime minister. I was ordered to pay S$150,000 to the prime minister in 2015. I have apologised to the prime minister. Yesterday, it was reported that my lawyer Eugene Thuraisingam has helped to negotiate for a settlement.
AsiaOne also reported: “Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong turned down blogger Roy Ngerng’s request that he be let off by paying $36,000 of the $150,000 he owes in damages. PM Lee responded to the request by saying Mr Ngerng had to pay his debt in full.”
- I have to pay S$30,000 (in costs) by tomorrow.
- From April 1, I have to pay S$100 every month for 5 years.
- After 5 years, from 2021, I have to pay S$1,000 every month until the damages are paid off.
In total, I have to pay S$180,000, inclusive of S$30,000 in costs. (Including the previous payment that I have made to the costs of the summary judgment (S$29,000) and application for the Queen’s Counsel (S$6,000), I would have paid/will pay S$215,000.)
I did not intend to do a formal fund raising as I had wanted to put things behind.
But I am thankful to friends and supporters who have still sent in funds to help defray the costs. I am grateful.
If you would like to help to defray the costs, you can also fund raise to the bank account at POSB Savings Bank Account 130-23068-7 (Ngerng Yi Ling).
As with the funds raised previously, I will update if I receive any funds and how they were used (here*, here and here). About S$30,000 was also paid to lawyer George Hwang. There are other miscellaneous court fees and costs which I have paid but are which not factored here, which amounts to the thousands.
As of 11.45am today, I have received a total of S$6,440.
*Note: Of the S$70,000 paid to lawyer M Ravi, I have asked for S$20,000 to be returned which went towards paying lawyer George Hwang and which would be used to pay the prime minister as well.
Roy, My amount may not be much on my own, but I just donated via ocbc.
PM Lee can use this hard-earned money from us to burn hell money to his daddy down there. But we know his pinkisk reign is at hand
End PAP tyranny
Just transferred some money to you. You have done a lot to highlight on our CPF issues. If not for you, our government would not have look into improving and adjusting it. Your intention is good just execution wasn’t on the right track. To cut the whole story short, we must not let our government “shut” our mouth simply by prosecuting whoever raised sensitive issues. I hope more people will support you in this difficult time.
You have openedthe “pandora box” the CPF have always been a big questionwhich singaporeanscwant to know more. Another important step come 2017 is the EP ELECTIONS. Lets not make the same mistake aswhat 70% of singaporeans did in GE2015. Our chance to bring in a non PAP candidate as our EP. PM is trying desperately to stop the process of a non PAP EP. Lets show him what PEOPLE’s POWER can do again the 2nd time next to wat Filipinos did to MARCOS
I believe there will be not more EP after the review and the purpose for the review is to end EP. We need a Malay to be the next President and maybe a woman will becomes one.
Maybe Roy will not need pay in full as I believe LHL will not live long enough to collect all the due? Or he have to pay his children when he is gone? Can the some lawyers enlighten us on this?
Perhaps after LHL mati, Roy can still remit the money to him in hell bank notes?
Perhaps the outstanding amount to pinky will be easier to clear to
